History
LCCC began its proud tradition of services in 1948 as the “Market Street Neighborhood House," which was born out of the historic "settlement house movement.." This movement, which was founded in London in 1884, was later brought to the United States in 1889 by Jane Addams, founder of the Hull House in Chicago and later the National Federation of Settlement Houses (NFSH) in 1908. Jane Addams became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recongnition of her advocacy for the poor.
LCCC is the widely recognized leader committed to employing self-reliance practices to ensure that children blossom, adults achieve, and neighborhoods thrive.
